Angela Pippos is Chief of Staff to Federal Member for Goldstein, Zoe Daniel. Angela advises Zoe on policy and strategy - with a particular focus on gender equality, including women’s economic security and women’s safety.
Her move into federal politics builds on an extensive and ground-breaking career as a journalist, presenter, author, columnist and filmmaker.
During her 14 years with the ABC, Angela worked as a researcher on the 7.30 Report and as a reporter for TV News - but she’s perhaps best known for anchoring the sports segment on the 7pm TV News for close to a decade.
In 2007 Angela embarked upon a highly successful freelance career across radio (the first woman to co-host a sports radio breakfast show), TV, film, print - and as a sought-after public speaker and MC.
During this time Angela became an important voice on gender equality in sport - and society.
Drawing on her knowledge and deep understanding of sport, Angela wrote her timely and award-winning book Breaking the Mould – Taking a Hammer to Sexism in Sport. This fascinating insight into the changing Australian sporting landscape was selected by the Grattan Institute for the Prime Minister’s Summer Reading List - and made The Australia Institute’s Essential Reading List.
Angela has co-written and produced two documentaries about the rise of women in Australian Rules football: Heroes (ABC) and League of Her Own (Seven Network).
Her most recent documentary, The Record, follows Australia’s dramatic Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, and the audacious bid to fill the MCG for the final on International Women’s Day 2020. The two-part series premiered globally on Amazon Prime and had a secondary release on ABC TV.
Angela has an Honours degree in politics from the University of Adelaide and a Journalism degree from the University of South Australia.
In 2021, Angela encouraged her good friend Zoe Daniel to run for the seat of Goldstein at the May 2022 election - and played a vital role in the historic victory.
Angela is Melbourne-based and travels to Canberra when Parliament is sitting.
